Nice catch of bonitos, kingfish and wahoo on the Mary B III

This is a review from one of our customers who fished with us last week.  Thanks for the good word Lance.
Hot fishing on the Mary B III– posted August 17, 2011
Great summertime fishing on the Mary B III out of Fishing Headquarters in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Two all day trips lasting about 8 hours. Trolled in the morning and bottom fished by drifting in the PM. Lots of reel
screamin’ bonitas (25 one day) and some nice kings. Three cobia were hooked within 30 minutes on one day. Two were boated, the largest got away, and it was BIG! Bottom fishing was pretty good. Lots of bait stealers but managed to catch quite a few snapper and other assorted fish. Small groupers, doctor fish, triggers, lizard fish, blue runners, bar jacks, grunts, and remoras to name a few. Snapper were mostly yellowtail, but an occasional mangrove and one Mutton. Tasty! Captain Stu and First Mate Chris were awesome. They will work hard to get you on the fish. Chris is experienced, very friendly and knowledgable. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone visiting Ft Lauderdale area. It is very affordable compared to chartering a sportfishing yacht. My son and I were able to do two 8-hour day trips and a six hour night trip for about $600, tips included. For comparison, charter fishing is about $400 per person for a single 4-hour trip. So, we would have spent about $800 (plus tips) for about 18 percent of the time we were able to spend on the Mary B III. Awesome deal and great fishing! There were only 7 of us on the boat the first day and 4 on the second day. Lots of action. The night fishing trip is more crowded and was not as productive. If you are experienced I would recommend bringing your own gear. The rod and reels on the boat are certainly adequate but I wish I had a more sensitive rod for bottom fishing. 40# mono and steelleaders. 4 to 5 oz. weight. No braid line. Good fishing!!!

Cobia caught drift fishing

This big cobia was caught drift fishing the reef of Ft Lauderdale

Outstanding fishing off the coast of Fort Lauderdale this week.  Our daily drift fishing trips aboard the Catch My Drift are catching lots of kingfish, bonitos and some nice snappers.  We’re getting the best bites drifting in 180 foot of water, with pretty steady action on kings, and then we’ll get obliterated by a school of bonitos that moves through and every line will go off.  The guys fishing on the bottom are picking at the snappers pretty good.  Some good sized yellowtail and mangroves snappers are coming up, and a big mutton sometimes.  Several of the drift trips have caught cobia this week, the night anchor trip too.

Giant warsaw grouper

Capt. Rod, John and anglers with a 108 lb warsaw grouper

Our sportfishing boats, the Big Game and Out of the Blue are killing them this week.  The Big Game caught a humongous Warsaw grouper that weighed 108 pounds.  The Fort Lauderdale wrecks are holding big amberjacks, warsaw/black grouper and some cobia.  Great offshore fishing this week too with some big mahi-mahi dolphin and some good size wahoo too.  We’ve got about 3 more weeks of great reef and offshore action until the big fish of September start moving in to take over (Sailfish and Tuna).  Good luck fishing everyone, I’ll sea ya on the water.
