Beautiful sailfish caught today on our Fort Lauderdale sport fishing charter. We went out today in the howling winds and braves the savage seas. It was a rough one out there today. Seas were 6′-10′ but we went out there on the morning trip. It was pretty good fishing too, so we were glad we went out. We started out trolling but with the rough seas, we switched right over to kite fishing. This time of year when the wind is up, kite fishing is the best ticket to catch nice fish. So up went the kite and we put out a spread of mullets. It wasn’t long before we got jumped by a school of dolphin fish. We caught 4 of them and missed a few others. We defenitely didn’t catch the entire school, there were more fish there. I saw a lot of aqua blue flashes all around the boat when we were fighting the dolphins to the boat, which means there was a pretty nice school of fish there. We must have caught the scout though, because they buggered off pretty quickly. After the dolphins, we popped the kites right back up. It wasn’t a very long time until we saw the dorsal fin swimming tight circles around the frenzied mullet. It was a big sailfish and he swallowed the bait whole. Instantly the fish started jumping and screaming line off the reel. A good fight by the fish and the angler and we got him to the boat. Fish was spewing up blood so we brought him in. Despite the huge seas out there, the fishing trip was a success. With the hurricane just offshore of our coast, the waves are big but the fishing is good. The storm doesn’t look like it is going to hit us and by Friday the seas should be a lot nicer. If anyone wants to go out there and go fishing, we’re up for it if you are. We’ll have the whole ocean to ourselves because most charter boats are too chicken to go out in rough weather. They just don’t know that days when the weather is like this, the fishing is really good.

Great day of fishing off Fort Lauderdale today. There’s been a lot of action around the reefs. A couple big wahoos got caught yesterday. The one in the morning was about a 25 pounder and the one in the afternoon was about a 30 pounder. We also caught 5 blackfin tunas yesterday, but they were all little ones(less than 5 pounds each). Other than that, we limited out in kingfish yesterday and got a few decent sized mahi mahi fish. All in all it was a great day. We had the Boat Show going on yesterday, so we didn’t get any photos of those catches, sorry guys.
We did however get some nice photos of the great big ole’ Hammerhead shark as you can see. This fish was a beast, estimated at over 300 pounds. It was a really cool fish to see out there, especially since it isn’t even the best time of year to catch them around here. February through about May is the best time to catch the big hammerhead sharks, but as you can see, you can catch them on any trip. All you have to be is lucky and these guys were sure that. There’s no better feeling than coming in with a fish bigger than you are. Anyway it was a great day of fishing out there and this big fish proves it.
The drift boats did good today as well. They caught a full boat load of snappers. Capt. Paul rant he trip today and caught about 20 yellowtail snappers as well as some other fishes. A couple king mackerals and cero mackerals were caught that were only a couple pounds a piece. There was also a nice dolphin fish caught that probably weighed about 6-8 pounds. All in all, it was a great day of fishing for both the drift fishing boats and the sport fishing boats. This week looks good, the hurricane is swinging wide away from South Florida, so don’t let that scare you. The fishing is great so lets get out there and catch some big game fish.

Drift fishing has been excellent this week out of Fort Lauderdale. The kingfish have been biting really good out of Fort Lauderdale. Every trip we’ve been coming in with a nice boxload, all legal sized ones, and some of them were actually really ncie ones, like 10-15 pounds. A few nice muttons have been biting as well.
The dolphin fishing has been hit or miss and mostly miss this week, although there have been a few really nice ones around lately. We caught this 14 pounder on the afternoon trip today. All in all the deep sea fishing has been good out of Fort Lauderdale this week. We’ll be running the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show this week and shuttling everyone from one section of the boat show to another. We’ll see you out there. Our sponsors this year are Mrs. G Diving and Metcalf Marine Exhaust. If anyone wants any information on these 2 companies, please feel free to call me at (754)214-7863. Thanks guys, sea ya all tommorrow.

Rainy day fishing in Fort Lauderdale today. The D-Nile caught a nice hammerhead shark this afternoon. The morning fishing was pretty good. The guys brought in a few dolphins and some kingfish but they didn’t take any fishing photos for me. Well, I made them take some photos this afternoon, so here’s a couple pictures of the hammerhead they caught.
The drift fishing boat got a couple nice muttons this afternoon. They went and did some snapper fishing in shallow today and got some muttons, yellowtails and a kingfish this afternoon. I didn’t get to see what they caught on the morning trip, because I was in the boatyard with another of our boats, painting her up to look pretty for the boat show. Anyway, sea ya all tomorrow, we’ll be out there fishing.

Great fishing from the Fort Lauderdale fishing boats today. We caught a lot of good action out there today. Both our drift boats went out this afternoon. The Catch MY Drift went out and went shallow water snapper fishing. They caught the yellowtail snapper pretty good today. This little guy in the photo caught a lot of the fish on the trip today and let me tell you that this kid is going to be a future mate for Fishing Headquarters. He was a great little fisherman and he helped some of the other customers with their fish.

The Mary B III went out on a private charter today. The guys wanted to go trolling offshore for dolphin ans stuff so we headed offshore. We got into a nice little school of dolphins and we caught a few good ones for dinner. We kept trolling and got a couple shipjack tuna fish later on in the day. On this little board we found floating offshore, our deep line got hit by a small wahoo. It wasn’t a giant one, but hey, we won’t complain. Lots of good eating fish on this trip.
The Out of the Blue got a couple nice fish today too. We started off by catching a huge kingfish, almost a 2o pounder. The kite was the best thing going today. Later on in the trip we got a big sailfish. The fish ate a live mullet we had out of the kite and this fish fought HARD!!! What a beauty. Lots of jumping action and the fish pretty much fought to the last breath he had. This was this guys first sailfish, but we didn’t throw him in the water after catching this one. We had the jack crevelles chummed up at the dock and they were in a feeding frenzy so we let him slide in regards to this little tradition of ours. Anyway, we’ve been catching the sailfish all week and they are biting good, so come on out here and catch some big fish with us. Sea ya all out there on the deep sea….

The sailfish bit today off Fort Lauderdale. We caught one and saw a few other free jumping out there just outside the reef. Today was good fishing all around. The sportfishing boat caught kingfish really good, the bait was biting, there was some action on the reefs, and we got a SAILFISH!!
We started off trolling the reef. The kingfish bit realy good in the 100-200′ depth, on and outside the reefs. Most of the kings were 5-10 pounds. We got a couple bonitos and missed a couple other bites that could have been cool fish. The planer baits that troll down deep kept getting hit, we couldn’t keep them in the water for more than a couple minutes.
This is a photo of us catching them 2 at a time. The action slowed down eventually though, so we decided to switch over and try some live baiting.
Capt. Johan was running the boat today. He’s been in the boat yard for the past 2 months putting new engines in the Big Game so he’s been itching to go fishing for a while now. We set up with the kites for a while with very little action to start.

After some time, the sailfish came up and grabbed the bait. He was a beauty and jumped quite a few times for us. We got him to the boat and got a bunch of photos with the fish. Here’s Rod wiring the fish up to the boat and posing with the fish. We released him and the fish swam away strong. It was a great day of sportfishing in Fort Lauderdale today.
Guys, the sailfish season is here in Fort Lauderdale and the fish are biting good. Give me a call if you want to make a reservation, we have plenty of openings.

It was a rainy day here in Fort Lauderdale here today. We didn’t go out on any of the sportfishing boats today. The ocean was actually flat as a pancake today, but it was overcast all day and kind of rainy. We stayed dry on the boat because we just steered clear of the rainclouds, but the weather man, of coarse, scared everyone away. Anyway, we did catch a couple nice muttons snappers today and a few yellowtails as well. Tonight the guys are going to andchor and go snapper fishing. The ocean looks beautiful, so hopefully they will come back with a nice catch. Sea you all tommorrow.

The Big Game sportfishing boat caught a nice barracuda and a good sized dolphin today on the morning trip. The morning was a little slow out there, but we managed to catch a couple good ones. We started off kite fishing with some live baits and the action was slow. After a while of sitting there with no action we had about a 12 pound dolphin swim up on us. The mate fed the fish and came tight on him. The dolphin jumped every which way but loose and he’s going to make a delicious dinner for Captain Johan, since the customer left the fish for him since he doesn’t eat fish. After a little while of no more kite fishing action, we made a move and stopped at a shallow shipwreck where we put out some live baits. We caught a really nice barracuda for the other guy on the boat, trophy sized one.
The afternoon trip was a little better. We started off trolling and caught a bonito and another dolphin fish, about an 8 pounder. Later on we popped the kite up and got hooked into a huge sailfish. The fish charged the boat and made some jumps directly at us. He came completely out of the water 4 times and put on one helluva show for us. We got the fish up to the boat and released him after the customers got some photos. I hope they send me some pictures because I didn’t have my camera aboard today. It was a good sportfishing trip this afternoon.
The drift boat had a good day too. They got into some dolphin and caught a nice kingfish. It wasn’t red hot fishing today out of Fort Lauderdale but it wasn’t terrible. We did catch some nice fish and everybody that went out had a good time. Fishing looks good tommorrow and with the east wind there should be some good fish around. Sea you all out there.

Pretty cool day out there on the Big Game sportfishing boat. The weather was a bit choppy but plenty fishable. We started out the trip catching s9ome blue runners with the chum bag around the bait buoy. They were biting decent, but it was a slow pick on them. So we decide to try trolling for bullets instead. Bullets are these small bonitos that are about 1 pound each. They are actually a type of tuna, but they make great bait. We call them “bullets” because they are small and fast. Big bonitos we call “bombers”.
So anyway, we start trolling the bullet lines and spot a frigate bird diving and some ballyhoo showering right beneath it. We troll over close to it and get a couple of bullets on the line. As we are fighting them they start going ballistic like something is chasing them. Sure enough, a second later, 2 really nice mahi mahi eat both the bullets we have on the line. The leaders we were using were only 15 pound test and unfortunately we bust off the bigger bull solphin almost immediately. The smaller cow dolphin, a 25 pounder stayed on though and we caught him. That’s a really nice dolphin for this time of year and the bull that got off was even bigger.

After we caught the dolphin, we decided to put out the trolling spread for reef fishing. First bait out there was the highline and it got hit instantly. We only had it out about 50 feet behind the boat and a huge sailfish came up and inhaled it. It was about a 6 and a half foot sailfish and it jumped a lot and put on a great show for us. We got the fish up to the boat, got a measurement and released him. I’m happy to say the fish swam away strong and it looks like he’ll make it. It was a beautiful fish. Unfortunately in the excitement, we didn’t get any photos of the fish, but we held the sailfish release flag up for the photo at the dock. After the sailfish release, we put the baits back out and caught another nice dolphin, not as big as the first one though. It was a great day of sportfishing out of Fort Lauderdale. Don’t let the weather scare you, the fishing is great and the ocean is plenty fishable. Sea ya tommorrow.

The sportfishing boats had a boy out for his birthday with his father yesterday. This was his birthday trip and his dad wanted him to catch a nice fish. Well, the fishing was slow but they caught a couple nice fish to make his day a special one. They caught a couple nice kingfish on the reef and then switched over to live bait and ended up catching a nice little spinner shark on light tackle. It ended up being a good trip. This is a photo of the shark they caught just before they released it.
This is a very nice letter the father wrote us about the trip, so I thought I would put it in my report. Thanks for the letter, Andrew. It was very nice of your to write. This is the letter:
I just wanted to thank Capt. Eric and John for our great trip yesterday. They both worked very hard to pay special attention to my son who was celebrating his birthday. We caught plenty of fish but I know that it was the kindness, hard work and enthusiam of these two gentlemen that made it a day he will never forget. Thanks, Andrew Hayward
