Just about every kind of fish caught today Fishing Fort Lauderdale

Tuesday, September 4th, 2007

Here's our group shot on out Fort Lauderdale fishing trip

We had an excellent day of Fort Lauderdale Drift Fishing today.  All kinds of fish were biting.  We caught dolphins and kingfish, bonitos and a bunch of snappers.  What a great day out there.  The weather was beautiful, despite what the weatherman predicted.  I mean, we live in South Florida, the weather is always beautiful.  Stop telling people the weather is bad, you have a 99% chance of being wrong.  Anyway, the water was calm, no rain till very late in the day, and the fish were biting great.

Here's some of the fish laying on the dock

We went out fishing off the third Fort Lauderdale reef and caught lots of kings and bonitos.  We use a lot of sardines and ballyhoo on our drift boat and they were working good for us today.  The kings and bonitos were tearing us up in about 90-120′ of water.  The captain saw a bunch of kings skyrocketing on some bait fish in that depth and swung the boat in for a closer look see.  We shut down the engine, put our baits in the water and BAM!  Bite after bite and kingfish after kingfish.  Bonitos were in the mess of them too, and they gave us a good catch today.

Nice kingfish drift fishing off Ft. Lauderdale

The guys fishing the bottom caught a few big mutton snappers and a few flag yellowtails.  They were just letting their lines out a little farther than everyone else and they were probably within 20 feet of the bottom drifting along.  The muttons swam up and grabbed their baits faster than a kid grabbing a popsickle.  Nice sized muttons too, 6 or 7 pounders which are decent sized ones for Fort Lauderdale.

Nice mutton caught aboard the Catch My Drift

As if all those fish weren’t enough a nice school of Mahi Mahi, dolphin fish, swam up to greet us near the end of the trip.  All of the ones in the school were like 8-10 pounders and we caught 6 of the 7 in the school.  They should not have swam close to the Catch My Drift!  One got away with a nice 5/0 hook as jewelry and he’ll have a sore jaw for a few days.  It was a great day of fishing out there and everyone had a stupendous time out there.  I can’t wait to see what we catch tommorrow!  See ya’ll out there.

Hey guys, just trying to get the word out about this blog, so if you like reading it and can link to it, then Thanks a bunch.  This is a link to my Technorati blog page, just so I can get searched by their search spiders.  Also, I’d realy love it if anyone can link to my homepage http://www.fishheadquarters.com so I get some traffic for my fishing boat.  We’re located in Fort Lauderdale Florida and we go fishing every single day.  I try to keep my site as current as possible and I update my fishing report almost every day that we go fishing and post what we catch.  Send me a link if you can, it would really help me out a bunch.  Thanks everybody.

Labor Day Weekend- Fort Lauderdale Shark Fishing

Fort Lauderdale shark fishing charter

The sharks were here this week off of Fort Lauderdale.  Sand Bar sharks, bull sharks and I even heard a news report of a shark attack off Ft. Lauderdale beach involving a spinner shark today.  The sharks were here in numbers this weekend and the sportfishing charter boats caught ‘em good.  We had two big sharks these past 2 days along with lots of bonitos and kingfish, which the sharks were almost definetly feeding on.  Also a few big barracudas were found on the the reefs this week.  The fishing was pretty good for these guys.

Great Fort Lauderdale family attraction

This trip too had a good catch and a monster shark for the wall.  These fish are strong as they come and put up an awesome fight.  We use the heavisest tackle they make to catch them and even on those sized reels, they are hard to fight.  There were a couple nice dolphins caught this weekend too.  The mahi mahi were coming in close to the reef and the sportfishing boats got to catch some nice dolphin fish, about 10-12 pounders.  Kings, bonito, dolphin, and sharks-  what isn’t biting out of Ft. Lauderdale.  Lets go Fishing!

Great fishing trip with Fishing Headquarters

The past couple of days were a lot of fun.  We caught a few great catches.  Lots of bonitos still biting on the Fort Lauderdale drift fishing boats.  We’ve been catching so many bonitos lately that we are releasing them.  We stockpile the bonitos this time of year for bait for the rest of the year, and we’ve put so many bonito strips and chum in the freezer, there isn’t room for any more.  Anyway, there is a lot of action fishing on the reefs.  Kingfish are biting good too.  We’re catching a few nice ones and a lot of smaller ones on just about every trip.  In this picture you see a big black fin tuna we caught on one of the drift fishing trips this week.  The tuna was about a 33 pounder and man do they fight hard.  They take a big run right off the bat and stay down deep the rest of the fight.  It takes a while to catch a big tuna like this one, especially on light tackle.

Nice blackfin tuna caught on the drift boat

This picture of the sailfish was from a charter on the drift fishing boat.  We caught this big sailfish which was humongous.  We were going to release it, but when it came up, it was gushing blood so we brought him in.  He was a monster and gave us an awesome fight.  He jumped a number of times and what a show he put on for the anglers, doing a somersault right next to the boat.  A beauty for sure.  We also caught a nice mahi mahi on this trip with some bonitos and kingfish.  Fort Lauderdale has had some good fishing these past few days.

On a sidenote, our swordfishing trips is cancelled this week because the Catch My Drift is going to the boatyard for a few days.  We have to fix something on the bottom of the boat and this weekend is about the best time for us to do it, so we’re going to haul the boat out of the water for a few days and repair it.  The Mary B III is going to be taking the open boat trips while the Catch My Drift is down.  We’re going to be using the Mary B III for our open boat fishing trips from this Wednesday 9/5/07 to next Wednesday 9/12/07 which means that our All Day Dolphin trip is going to be cancelled too this week.  Sorry for the inconvienence everyone, but we’ll resume our normal schedule with all the extra trips ASAP.  THE OPEN BOAT TRIPS ARE ALL STILL GOING THIS WEEK!  Good Luck everybody.
