Drift Fishing and Sportfishing Charter in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida 7/12/07

Thursday, July 12th, 2007

Today was some pretty dang good fishing off Ft. Lauderdale.  We caught a huge shark on the sportfishing boat.  A 13 year old boy from Russia caught him all by himself.  It was a great fight and an awesome fish.  Yesterday was a good day too on the sportfishing boat, with a bunch of snapper and a nice black grouper caught.  The weather was beautiful, and the ocean was calm.  Typical summertime weather for us.  This is a picture of the shark we caught and yesterdays bottom fishing trip.

The drift boats have been doing great also.  Today we got tons of action on the reef with about 25 bonitos and 1 big kingfish.  Not bad for a 4 hour fishing charter.  Tommorrow night we’re going swordfishing so hopefully I’ll get a big fish to show you guys pictures of.  Still some room on our Swordfishing trip tommorrow if anyone wants to come.  Weather looks good and it should be a great night.  I know the swordfish are snapping out there.  This is a picture of today’s trip on the Catch My Drift.

Swordfishing Charter in Ft Lauderdale

The Friday Night Swordfishing trip we run every Friday Night was red hot this week. We went out 15 miles offshore to where the swordfish bite has been hot.  Put our lines in and on the first drift we had a triple header on.  We caught only one fish out of that batch.  All 3 fish were heading in different directions and we had to pick which one to catch.  We chased down the one we figured was the biggest fish.  Got him to the boat and harpooned him.  It was nice fish, about a 70 pounder.  One of the guys that fishes with us every week, John Kuhar, landed him.  It was his first swordfish ever that he caught himself, although he’s been out there when we’ve caught them before.  But this one was his and it as a beuaty.  Pretty work John, glad you got one with us.  Unfortunately we lost the other 2 fish we had on at the same time.  Pulled the hooks.  We caught another swordfish later that night.  Got some nice pictures of it, but it was a smaller fish, so we let it go.  We had a ton of other bites, 9 fish in total.  Caught a nice cuban night shark that night also.  It was an exciting trip and I’ll post some pictures as soon as I get them back.  Thanks to everyone that came out with us that night and hope to have you all back again next week.  This Friday’s trip still has some spots available for it, so join in if you have Saturday off.  The swordfish are out there and they are biting.

Swordfish Biting Off Ft. Lauderdale

Thursday, July 5th, 2007

Hi there everyone, haven’t posted a report in a while. Thought I’d tell you about the swordfishing this week. Our open boat swordfishing trip this week had an intreresting catch. Our first fish was actually a 7 foot Mako Shark. Caught it on our first drift, on a rigged squid. Thought it may have been a swordfish when it came up, all irridescent blue, but it was a mako. We released it after a good fight. We set out the lines again and got another nice shark on, this one being a cuban night shark, I think… We got it close to the boat but it bit through the monofilament when it got close to the boat. It was about a 6-7 footer also. Our third fish was probably a swordfish. We fought it for a little while and got it close to the boat again. When the light was just visible we saw a big fish come up and actually EAT the light. Must have been a big shark because we lost everything, the light, the swivel, the rig, everything. It was a pretty active night out there.

We ran a swordfish charter the other night on the sportfishing boat also. We caught a 128 pounder and a 97 pounder that night. It was a good trip. i heard on the radio of a few other nice fish caught, so the swordfish are biting out there. We still have room on the Friday Night swordfishing trip if anyone is interested.

Dolphin have not been biting as good as they have been for the past few weeks. The last few times I went offshore looking for dolphin hasn’t been very productive, but we’ve been coming in on the reef and really knocking the socks off the fish in close. The bonitos and kingfish have been biting great. Every trip we’ve been limiting out on kingfish and catching a lot of bonitos too. The summertime action is here finally. Bonitos are late this year, so that means they will probably stay late this year too.

The drift boats have been doing great on both their daytime and the nighttime trips lately. Our Night charters have been catching lots of yellowtail snapper and some big ones at that. Along with some big mangrove snappers and some small to medium muttons, the night trips have been good action. The day trips have been concentrating on the bonito and kingfish action lately and they have been doing great. Lots of fish on every trip.

Capt. Paul has been running some deep dropping bottom trips and has been catching some nice snowy groupers, warsaw groupers, vermillion snappers and some big amberjacks. He says that his top secret spots have been working great whenever there is a little bit of current.

Anyway, the fishing has been really exciting these past few days, lots of action on the reef and some great bottom fishing. Offshore has been a bit slow but there’s plenty of other types of fishing to keep you busy. Good luck out there…
